DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Danville is in the process of demolishing an abandoned building.
Wednesday morning, Public Works knocked down the front walls of the building. It’s located downtown on 129 North Vermilion Street.

Danville’s Mayor, Rickey Williams Jr., said the building was a safety hazard after the roof collapsed by not having the support to hold up. Officials were concerned about the structure falling so they went ahead and tore part of it down safely.
Members in the community stopped by to reminisce at a spot where they used to hang out.
“Get rid of the old, bring in the new, so to speak, which is nothing wrong with it. I mean, it’s a dirty shame all these buildings got to fall apart. That’s what happens when they’re not maintained over the over the years,” Kim Plecker said.
