A 50-cent per-trip passenger fee is coming to ride share services like Uber and Lyft as an additional revenue stream for the Eugene city budget.

EUGENE, Ore. – In an attempt to open up another revenue stream for the 2023-2025 city budget, Eugene will begin adding a fee to passengers who use rideshare services like Uber and Lyft.

“Council adopted an ordinance establishing the ability to charge a per-trip fee in 2018. But the city did not implement that fee at that time,” said city manager Sarah Medary during an October 28 city meeting.

New revenue strategies for the upcoming budget including adding a $0.50 per-trip passenger fee for these services.
