Sioux Falls Zoo announces name of Pallas’ kitten [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The name of the newest feline at the Great Plains Zoo has been announced.

The Pallas’ cat born in July at the Great Plains Zoo will be called Tashi.

Naming rights were won in an online silent auction and the winner selected Tashi’s name, which has origins in the Tibetan language. It means prosperity, good fortune, and auspiciousness.

Tashi is believed to be imbued with positive energy and blessings and can be given as a name to both male and female children. It is popular within the Sherpa community.

The male kitten was born to seven-year-old mom Salkhi and six-year-old dad Kaz. Tashi is the second offspring for both parents, who came to the Great Plains Zoo on a recommendation from the Pallas’ Cat Species Survival Program.

Tashi’s older brother Pazi was born in 2020 and now lives at Michigan’s Potter Park Zoo.
