KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Around 400 lbs. of unused prescription medication was collected from hospitals around the Kansas City metro in an effort to curb the ongoing opioid crisis.
HCA Midwest Hospitals leaders have announced that their Crush the Crisis 2024 event, which was held on Saturday, Oct. 26, was a huge success. Across the five locations that collected unused prescriptions, nearly 400 lbs. were amassed.
This year, in partnership with Heartland Regional Drug and Rehab Centers, HCA officials noted that nearly 80 Narcan kits were given out. Community members were also given the chance to educate themselves on the dangers of prescription drugs and the importance of Narcan.
The event coincided with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day to offer the community a chance for safe disposal.
Since Crush the Crisis began in 2019, more than 67,500 lbs. of medication have been collected from 120 HCA facilities.
