Davidson Countys Shelter Court to relocate work to a more prominent location [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Davidson County is moving one of their specialty criminal courts to a new, more accessible location: Nashville’s Stroble House.

“Shelter Court” is a multi-agency collaboration that deals with the unhoused community. The specialty court helps first-time or nonviolent unhoused offenders find services.

“This enables us to have an afternoon docket. It’s in the community, it’s not as intimidating as the courtroom,” said Judge Lynda Jones about the relocation. “As the judge, I won’t be wearing a robe, I’ll just have on my regular clothing, so it’s less intimidating.”

Modeled after court systems in San Diego and New Orleans, the people behind Nashville’s Shelter Court hope to take its next step inside the calm environment of Strobel House.
