SOUTHWEST, Va. (WJHL) – There are several resources available to Southwest Virginians impacted by Hurricane Helene.
There are two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) located in the region. One is located in Smyth County and the other is in Washington County.
FEMA Media Relations Specialist Trey Paul said that representatives are going door to door assisting residents impacted in the region.

“We’re meeting survivors where they are,” Paul said. “Now, we have several Disaster Recovery Centers open so they can come to us.”
Before visiting a DRC, it’s important to come prepared with essential documents such as ID, social security card, and proof of insurance.
“A lot of times they may not have received what they were anticipating. That could be as simple as leaving off something when they filled out the registration form,” Paul said.
