DECATUR, Miss. (WTOK) – Newton County School District invited parents, students, and community members out to its CTE building to learn more about the facility’s purpose.
People were able to tour classrooms, speak with teachers, and even speak with the superintendent during a round table event at Newton County’s Career and Technical Education center.
State Treasurer David Mcrae even made an appearance. He was there to see the progress the school district is making and has made but was also there to give out two thousand dollars worth of scholarships to students in attendance.
“The average child goes to school with roughly $35,000 worth of debt, and at College Savings, Mississippi College and career savings. In Mississippi, we want to not have a child, go to college and graduate with debt, and to start them on the right path. It’s their best foot forwards,” said Mcrae
