PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A crack in the lens of a high-tech art installation in LOVE Park designed to connect people around the world through a live stream is not stopping its launch.
“There’s a crack, but there is a crack in the Liberty Bell too,” said Michael Newmuis, the 2026 director for the City of Philadelphia. He says the crack in the installation, known as the Portal, was not caused by vandalism and can be easily fixed.
“Despite that it is not fixed today, we are going to move forward and not delay the opportunity to experience this incredible and unparalleled piece of artwork,” he added.
The Portal arrived here from New York City, where it acted as a bridge to the people of Dublin, Ireland. It’s not yet known what city or cities Philadelphia will be connected with.
