ROCHESTER, Minn. – At Garden Party Books State Rep. Andy Smith and City Council President Randy Schubring held a press conference on the need for local funding.
Smith says in his first term he tried to get the HF3548 and HF3549 bill passed in the Local Government Aid (LGA) program. That would’ve helped increase per capita for each resident from $40 to $150. That would increase funding from $5 million dollars to $18 million dollars.
Smith says the increase in funding will help residents who are concerned about the increase in property taxes. With the city looking to vote on a property tax levy for around a 10% increase the funding would help decrease the levy.
