COLUMBIA — A new housing study released Thursday by the City of Columbia and Boone County found a lack of affordable housing across all income levels in Boone County, especially for low-income families, young adults and first-time homebuyers.
The Boone County and City of Columbia Housing Study, part of the Boone County Upward Mobility Action Plan, was conducted by the consulting firm, Amarach Planning Services. The firm compiled information on current housing trends, demands and disparities throughout the city and county, by using qualitative and quantitative data from a survey, community meetings and stakeholder interviews.
“This study is integral to Columbia’s approach to addressing the community’s housing crisis,” Boone County Community Services Director Joanne Nelson said in a county news release. “The Boone County and City of Columbia Housing Study lays the groundwork needed to outline necessary steps to ensure all Boone County residents and families have access to affordable housing.”
