San Antonio paper plant to lay off 89 employees [Video]

SAN ANTONIO — International Paper will shut down its east-side San Antonio Sheet Plant, laying off 89 employees in the coming weeks, according to state filings.

Based out of Memphis, International Paper is a global producer of sustainable packaging pulp and other fiber-based products, as well as one of the world’s largest recyclers. According to an Oct. 10 notice sent to the Texas Workforce Commission, employees were notified this month of the closure and imminent layoffs. 

The layoffs will be completed by Nov. 18, impacting dozens of workers in the thick of the holiday season.
