New Prestonsburg Fire Chief honored with pinning ceremony [Video]

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) — The Prestonsburg Fire Department is under new leadership in Kentucky. Celina Thomas is now the new fire chief for the city.

Thomas says she got the call from the mayor about this opportunity in early October and did not waste any time getting started.

“I hit the ground running that day,” Thomas said.

Friends, family and community members gathered to watch the milestone unfold at a pinning ceremony held for Thomas.

“I am very grateful for the people who have poured into me over the years. As a matter of fact, my first fire chief, Gary Dotson, is here tonight and I was excited to see him walk through the door. He taught me so much about being a leader in the fire service and I’m just excited to lead this community and this department in this community,” Thomas said.
