Kansas City church takes more than 70 guns off the street, will turn them into gardening tools or jewelry [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Central Presbyterian Church took more than 70 guns off the street at an anonymous “safe surrender” event Saturday. The event was called “Guns to Gardens” – as the surrendered guns were immediately dismantled so they could be converted into tools.

“It means that our community is a little bit safer,” said Rev. Jenny Wells, the pastor at Central Presbyterian.

The church asked the public to bring their unwanted, unloaded firearms to its parking lot. Once there, the church had a process in place to destroy the guns.

“When someone arrived to surrender a firearm, we had inspectors who were trained in handling firearms to make sure that there was no ammunition inside,” said Rev. Wells. “Once they had been cleared, they were passed off to our chop saw operators who were operating saws and actually chopping the firearms into pieces.”
