A SITTING Irish politician who is a member of the Dail or the Seanad was recruited as a Russian spy, it’s alleged.
And the Taoiseach has claimed that Russian activity in Ireland should come as no surprise to anyone.
A “honeytrap” was used to get the Oireachtas member working as a spy during the Brexit talks, with Russia seeking to undermine relations between Britain, Ireland and the EU, according to claims made in the Sunday Times.
They also reported that while the Irish military and security services identified the potential agent, they remain a member of the Oireachtas.
A “honeytrap” is where an agent makes their target fall for them romantically.
Deputy Cathal Crowe told the Irish Sun that the person should be “named and shamed”.
