Port strike sparking another rush to buy toilet paper, shoppers saying shelves are empty [Video]

(CNN) – A run on toilet paper is making it feel like 2020 all over again.

Videos on social media show people panic-buying toilet paper in response to Tuesday’s major port strike, leading to shortages and empty shelves in stores nationwide.

But it’s all unnecessary. That’s because the strike at ports from Maine to Texas will not have an impact on the toilet paper supply.

The overwhelming majority of U.S. toilet paper comes from domestic factories followed by Canada and Mexico.

So, mostly all of the toilet paper supplies get delivered by rail or truck and not by ship.

Officials are reminding everyone to not reenact the pandemic rush to stockpile the necessary bathroom item.
