MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) – A group of Wausau voters appeared outside the Department of Justice Office in the Western District of Wisconsin to request an investigation into what they call Mayor Doug Diny’s “unwarranted” removal of the only ballot drop box in Wausau.
The organization Wisconsin Democracy Campaign issued a news release Wednesday saying they joined the group of voters, and were also joined by SEIU Wisconsin, All Voting is Local Action, Souls to the Polls, and community activists.
The Justice Department says it’s aware of the complaint and declining further comment at this time.
Mayor Doug Diny removed the drop box on Sept. 22 without consulting with the clerk, who has the authority under a Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling legalizing drop boxes to make one available. They are not mandatory in the state.
