Protecting property and animals during Helenes remnants [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Northwest Ohio is now feeling the effects of Helene.

“Right around 40 to 50 miles per hour, we start to see the potential for damage,” said Austin Rohleder, the marketing director for Integrity Home Exteriors.

In some “high wind” conditions, branches could break off trees and loose objects are blown around.

Damage could even happen to porches, carports, awnings or roofs, according to the National Weather Service.

“If there are soft spots in the roof and it’s kind of older and wearing down, those shingles are going to get torn off,” said Rohleder.

Inspections before and after wind events are critical, he added.

“It’s not about what happens when they get torn off, but afterwards. That’s the first place leaks are going to happen,” said Rohleder.
