NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – As New Orleans continues to fight back from its unwanted distinction as “Murder Capital of America” in 2022, its violent crime reduction efforts are taking place on many fronts, including at its police district in New Orleans East.
“The Seventh District is leading all of our districts with a 40 percent reduction in violent crime,” NOPD Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick said at an Aug. 16 news conference.
The dramatic drop in crime also involves people and agencies — such as the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office — playing unconventional roles. Since last year, the Orleans DA’s office says it has been more active in preventing crimes, not just prosecuting them.
“What’s taking place with all the partners involved is unconventional, but it has resulted in the most precipitous drop in violent crime in any city in the country, per capita,” District Attorney Jason Williams said.
