Watch: Possible tornado spotted in Charlotte [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A possible tornado was caught on camera in Charlotte on Thursday morning.

Jacob Sprankle, who shared the video on X, spotted the funnel cloud on Sept. 26, in the Steele Creek division.

The National Weather Service (Greenville-Spartanburg) responded to Sprikle in the comments, asking if he saw any damage from where the possible tornado occurred.

Sprankle replied: “Nothing noted so far.”

The possible tornado/funnel cloud comes just hours before Hurricane Helene is expected to hit Flordia, eventually moving northward toward the Carolinas.

Helene’s main impacts

Rainfall totals of six to 12+ inches are possible in the mountains and foothills from Helene, plus rain that fell prior to the storm. This has prompted an elevated flooding risk in this area, where a flood watch remains in effect.

Two to four inches of rain are expected in the Charlotte Metro and localized flash flooding will result. Lower rain totals are forecast for the Sandhills.
