Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School board members discussed Open Gate, a new metal detection system, during their board meeting. According to Jonathan Wilson, chief safety security and emergency management officer, and his team, Open Gate is 90% more efficient than traditional metal detectors.”So, instead of having to pass off your bag, go through a metal detector, wait for a teacher or administrator to go through all of your personal property that you bring to school,” a security official said. “We don’t do that anymore.”Glenn and Parkland high schools have already tested Open Gate this school year.It’s currently in use at Reagan and North Forsyth high schools.Reagan’s principal, Brad Royal, says so far, so good.”No complaints on our side.
