DENVER (KDVR) — Denver Public Schools announced it may be forced to close some of its schools due to low enrollment.

The district said it is due to declining birth rates, which is affecting school districts nationally, and people moving out of Denver for a better cost of living.

Before the district determines which schools or how many, they are holding six community engagement meetings to help educate staff, parents and students about why they are considering school closures.

“This first round of regional engagements are to really set the stage for what potentially is going to be the Board of Education’s vote,” said Alex Marrero, DPS superintendent.
