TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — United Way of Greater Lafayette is still looking for volunteers for the Read to Succeed program.
The program started in 2011 and serves all public schools in Tippecanoe County.
Volunteers are placed in local school classrooms for one hour a week.
The goal is to support early grade reading.
Amy O’Shea is the Senior Director of Community Impact at United Way.
She says they still have 150 spots left to fill.
O’Shea says once COVID hit, their volunteer numbers have been down.
She encourages everyone to consider volunteering for Read to Succeed.
“We’re hoping volunteers can give an hour a week but we know that’s a big commitment,” said O’Shea. “If you would be better off sharing a spot you can partner with someone you know. Maybe a co-worker, friend or neighbor. You can share that commitment, so maybe going every other week or filling-in when you can’t be there.”
