PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – Nearly a week after a local sheriff’s social media post sparked controversy online, some residents spoke out against his comments on Thursday.

Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski made the original post on his personal campaign Facebook page on Sept. 13, appearing to call out residents who support presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

“When people ask me what will happen if the flip-flopping, laughing hyena wins, I say, write down all the addresses of people who had her signs in their yards,” the post said. “So, when the illegal human locusts need places to live, we’ll already have the addresses of their new families who supported their arrival.”

The sheriff said he was using his freedom of speech, but some residents have called the comments an example of voter intimidation.

The NAACP held an emergency meeting at the Kent United Church of Christ Thursday evening, where dozens gathered to discuss their concerns.
