“A lot of the schools are really overcrowded already. So, closing down more schools will it’ll cause even more overcrowding,” said Christie Menning.
That was just a sample of what parents and community members had to say about the Anchorage School District possibly closing some schools because of dropping enrollment.
Since 2010, there has been a decline in school enrollment in the district, by almost 6,000 students.
Abbott Loop closed at the end of last school year to save the district money.
The district is now asking parents to fill out an online survey, that will help determine which other schools might close, consolidate or repurpose.
ASD Chief Operating Officer, Jim Anderson has said that the goal is to use facilities to better meet the needs of the district, and not to close small schools.
