HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Mexico’s flag was raised Monday over the Connecticut Capitol Building to honor Mexican Independence Day.
The flag was raised during a celebration that included music and a dance performance.
“Being able to attend like this one and seeing the mariachi live, and the performers, is just really meaningful to me, but also my Mexican heritage, and being able to celebrate it in the United States is just so powerful,” said Adriana Rodriguez, the executive director of the Spanish Community of Wallingford.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
