Many people of all ages are enthusiastic about the annual Mexican Independence Day Parade. “We feel excited to be here because we’re enjoying our country and our flag,” Bryan Hernandez, a paradegoer, said. Mexico gained independence on Sept. 16, 1810.It was the day when priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla urged Mexicans to fight against the colonial government of Spain. The day marks the beginning of the war that lasted 11 years until Mexico gained its independence in 1821. To recognize the day, leaders with United Migrant Opportunity Services hosted the 50th Mexican Independence Day Parade. “It motivates me to just, to see all of this community gathering,” Laura Serena, a paradegoer, said.
