LifeSouth in need of blood donations [Video]

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — The need for blood across Alabama could reach critical levels over the next few days.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, high winds and rains hit Alabama, shutting down mobile blood drives across the state. LifeSouth District Community Development Coordinator Becky Cecil said when severe weather hits, fewer people make the trip to donation centers.

“That affects our numbers too,” Cecil said. “When we have a daily amount we have to produce to supply our hospital with what they need and we don’t have as many people coming out and we have to cancel or potentially end blood drives early, it really affects our supply.”

LifeSouth provides hospitals across Alabama with blood.
