Designs for the Al Maktoum International Airport near Dubai – which developer’s reportedly hope will be the world’s largest airport upon completion – have been revealed.

Coop Himmelb(l)au – the architecture firm behind the airport’s design, said Al Maktoum International will eventually have a capacity of 260 million passengers annually, and will feature five parallel runways.

The architect said the design will incorporate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to create a “next level” aviation experience for passengers, but will also reflect Dubai’s heritage.
