Shane Lowry ends Kingspan deal after Grenfell verdict [Video]

Shane Lowry will no longer be sponsored by Kingspan after the golfer and the building materials firm “mutually agreed to discontinue [their] sponsorship relationship”.

The 2019 Open champion had faced calls to cut ties with the Cavan-headquartered company for its role in the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London, which claimed the lives of 72 people.

“Kingspan and I have mutually agreed to discontinue our sponsorship relationship, which we believe to be the right decision for all concerned at this time,” Lowry said in a statement released by his management company, Horizon Sports.

“Neither party will be commenting further.”

A report into the blaze published last week found Kingspan “knowingly created a false market” for its ‘K15′ insulation product by claiming it had passed the necessary fire performance tests for external cladding systems.
