Trevor Story officially returned to the Red Sox roster Saturday.
Boston announced in a press release Saturday that it reinstated Story from the 60-day injured list. To make room on the active roster, catcher and infielder Mickey Gasper was optioned to Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox also announced they recalled right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell from the WooSox and placed him on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Story underwent what was believed to be season-ending shoulder surgery in April. The 31-year-old made strides last month when he fielded ground balls and took swings at batting practice before beginning his rehab assignment in Worcester. Story, manager Alex Cora and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow each expressed confidence in a return before the end of the season, and he’s expected to start against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday.
