OWASSO, Okla. — The Gathering on Main returns to downtown Owasso Thursday night.
For those who haven’t been to the Redbud District lately, there’s a bright new mural welcoming people downtown.
The artist behind the mural shared how a collaboration made it happen.
Owasso High School art teacher Shelly Collins said she had her eye on this wall for a while. The Chamber of Commerce connected her with the building’s owner, the City provided grants, and she and the owner collaborated on the design for months.
“We definitely wanted the logo,” Shelly said. “Obviously it’s the scissortail for Oklahoma, so that’s something relatable.”
She said birds show up in her art, a lot.
“I’ve always been attracted to the form, the beautiful shape of birds, the symbolism, the freedom that birds represent, hope, beauty,” Shelly said.
You can’t have a mural welcoming people to the Redbud District without the flower …
