Winston-Salem approves investment package for development project [Video]

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — At a meeting Tuesday night, the Winston-Salem City Council unanimously voted to approve an incentives package for “Project Kohlrabi,” a development project that is expected to bring over 300 jobs to the city.

Project Kohlrabi is the codename for the project, which “involves a fresh produce distributor that provides global distribution, supply chain, and freight solutions.” Foster USA is heading the project and has been looking for locations across North Carolina and South Carolina to serve as an additional cold storage facility for its warehousing and distribution operations.

The approved incentives package has the City of Winston-Salem contributing $86,550 over five years. According to a development project analysis form submitted by the company, that money will be used to “reduce the company’s outlay associated with the proposed facility.”
