FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Union members marched down Van Slyke Road in Flint Monday for Genesee County’s first Labor Day parade.
Festivities kicked off at the Bristol Road Church of Christ and ended at Sitdowners Memorial Park for UAW Region 1-D’s annual Labor Day celebration. While the parade may have ended there, it was a testament to the idea that solidarity stretches beyond more than just one union.
“That’s what solidarity really means. We may disagree, but we both want the same things,” said UAW Region 1-D Director Steve Dawes.
The Labor Day celebration at Sitdowners Memorial Park is usually a UAW event, but this year with the addition of the parade, and a newly formed Genesee County Labor Alliance, it became a celebration of labor of all kinds.
