Charli xcx didn’t realize her Brat-related political post would go wild on social media.
In a cover story interview with New York magazine released Monday, Aug. 26, the pop star, 32, said that her “music is not political” despite crafting a viral post where she said, “kamala IS brat.”
According to Charli, the reference was something she meant as “something positive and lighthearted” rather than as a means for endorsing a candidate.
But the “Apple” singer also elaborated on her beliefs during the conversation.
“To be on the right side of democracy, the right side of women’s rights, is hugely important to me,” Charli said, adding: “I’m happy to help to prevent democracy from failing forever.”
