City leaders honor Dollar General shooting victims 1 year later [Video]

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Monday marks one year since a racially-motivated shooting at a Jacksonville Dollar General left three people dead.

AJ Laguerre Jr., Angela Carr and Jerrald Gallion were killed on Aug. 26, 2023, after a gunman stormed a Dollar General in Jacksonville’s New Town neighborhood.

Sunday afternoon, city leaders and community members gathered at Kings Road Memorial Park for an event to honor the victims and support survivors of the shooting.

The event included a soil collection ceremony and the unveiling of renderings for a memorial marker to pay tribute to the victims.

A group of volunteers are working to collect soil from places around Jacksonville that have been the scene of racially motivated killings.
