TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – The Trussville community met at Cahaba Elementary School Thursday to learn more about a proposed property tax increase ahead of next Tuesday’s election.
It would increase property taxes by 12.9 mill. That’s about $129 per $100,000.
Opponents of the change tell WBRC they fear the situation will spiral, with the school system eventually demanding more from residents.
Supporters say it is not too much of a burden to bear, adding children are the future and there should not be a limit on helping them.
The goal is to further fund public education by building a new elementary school, making enhancements to the current middle school, and adding new wing onto the high school.
The superintendent of Trussville City Schools says the money is needed to expand.
