Kearsley Schools faculty practices active shooter training | Education [Video]

GENESEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT)-  Kearsley Community Schools ran active shooter training based on the ALICE program Wednesday morning.

ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate and it’s used by schools across the U.S.

This district-wide session saw hundreds of teachers and faculty practicing lockdown and evacuation skills in the high school building.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the training and played the role of the threat.

For some educators, like Science Teacher Nick Doyon, it was their first time physically practicing for a shooter scenario.

“It was emotional,” he remarked. “But it really does help me understand, hopefully, what it would be like to have to, unfortunately, participate in one of those real-life scenarios.”

The faculty went through different ways it could play out: with students in class, passing between classes, and even the shooter changing directions.
