The annual back-to-school event drew at least 5,000 people, according to Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Leslie Torres-Rodriguez.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Thousands of families showed up for Hartford Public Schools’ back-to-school event Tuesday to load up on an array of supplies for the upcoming school year.

Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Leslie Torres-Rodriguez said, “what this really should be about is a community coming together opening their doors for our young people.” 

Torres-Rodriguez estimated that between parents and kids, an upwards of 5,000 people showed up to the event after registering online and then lining up to get into the stadium concourse.

Viviana Alvardo, the partnership and community manager from Hartford Public Schools, said students left the stadium with a lot of school supplies, made possible by 20 different sponsors from across Connecticut.
