SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Firefighters responded to a trash truck that caught on fire early Tuesday morning, Smith County Emergency Services District 2 said.

Nikki Simmons, the Community Outreach Coordinator for Smith Count ESD2, said the call came in around 10 a.m. on County Road 244 in Overton.
According to officials, the driver of the trash truck was able to get out and there were no injuries reported.
“Firefighters from Engine 141 and Engine 132 quickly arrived on scene to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to the woods,” Smith County ESD2 said.

“Smith County Fire Marshal’s office will handle the investigation,” Simmons said.
As of 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Smith County is not under a burn ban. However, Smith’s neighbor county, Henderson, is under a ban as well as Morris County.
