IRONDALE Ala. (WBRC) – The City of Irondale cut the ribbon on its brand-new Storybook Walk. The walk features 22 posts, each showing a page from a children’s book. The goal is to finish the book while completing one lap around the park.
Located across the street from Irondale Community School, the project was in partnership with Auburn Extension Service.
Extension specialist, Mitch Carter, said the trail not only enriches education but promotes physical activity.
In addition to the literacy, it provides opportunities to be physically active. Around here are suggestions on physical activity like to do jumping jacks, lunges, and things like that. So it’s more than just reading and getting people outdoors walking around more. Keeping people physically active,” said Carter.
Mayor of Irondale, James D. Stewart Jr., said the walk is helping Irondale stand out and promotes learning outside of the classroom.
