The group submitted 10,852 signatures to get the charter change on the ballot, pending validation by the board of elections and the approval of Toledo City Council.

TOLEDO, Ohio — An effort to the change city charter has moved a step closer to reaching Toledo voters.

If approved, a charter change regarding mayoral term limits would be on the ballot for voters to decide in November.

The push began earlier this year when it was announced that “a group of business leaders” had begun collecting signatures “to allow the Mayor a third term,” according to a press release sent by the group on March 1.

A total of 10,852 signatures were submitted Monday to the city of Toledo’s clerk of council, Julie Gibbons.

The signatures will now go to the Lucas County Board of Elections for validation. Once the board confirms there are enough signatures, which Gibbons said is anticipated …
