Tuesday brings slight chance of afternoon showers to Portland; high 78 [Video]

A low pressure system off the Washington coast slowly moves inland Tuesday bringing chances of late afternoon showers to areas north of a line from Newport to Salem.

The National Weather Service says the showers will be slow to move into the valleys from the coast and may not kick off until the late afternoon or evening.

Prior to that, Portland will see mostly sunny skies in the morning, then increasing clouds. The high should reach about 78 degrees. Any shower activity should be light, and there is a very slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The weather will dry up by early Wednesday morning as the low moves east of the Cascades. After a mostly clear morning, Portland will see increasing clouds by noon with showers likely in the afternoon. The high temp will drop to about 73 degrees.
