NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The City of New Orleans has released its findings in its 2024 New Orleans Music Census.
City officials said the census is a community-led study that took place from May to June and included 1,504 responses from residents involved in New Orleans’ music industry. They said the goal of the study was to gain insight into the city’s music ecosystem.
Some key findings from the census include areas of economic impact, venue diversity, professional development needs, livability and career concerns and weather interruptions.

According to the study, respondents in the music industry generate $26 million and contribute $12 million “through career-related expenses.” However, the study notes that 55% of respondents work outside the music industry, with 73% of those people relying on other jobs as their main source of income.
