Mayor, Chief Announce Reforms After Teen Killed by Anchorage Police

A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed after an altercation with Anchorage police earlier this week.

Mayor Suzanne LaFrance and Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case held a press conference addressing the incident and recent officer-involved shootings, announcing a series of actions in response.

“The shooting that happened on August 13th was the sixth officer-involved shooting this year. We cannot and will not accept this as our new normal,” said LaFrance.

The internal investigation of the August 13th incident will be completed by a third-party investigator.
