First year Georgia College students participate in GCSU Gives Day [Video]

Students went out to 30 different places to dig, plant, clean, organize and interact with the community at various civic nonprofits, businesses, schools and others

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia College and State University’s first-years may have just arrived on campus, but the school is already getting them integrated into the community.

On Saturday, GCSU brought all first-year students to give students a lesson in volunteer work at GCSU Gives Day.

The event is expected to provide an economic impact of $120,000 in donated labor.

The university, which prides itself on its community service, said in a release how they want to get students started early.

“GCSU Gives Day is a fundamental piece of the liberal arts education we provide students at Georgia College,” said Ashley Copeland, director of Community Engagement & Service. “We want to create informed citizens who care about people and the community they’re moving into,” Copeland said. “Right from the start, GCSU Gives Day shows …
