The International School of Kuala Lumpur

Christina Decu, Director of Enrollment Management in conversation with Fiona Murchie, founder and Managing Editor of Relocate Global and Think Global People.

The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is an Award-winning school and was the winner of Relocate Global and Think Global People’s Excellence in Education Award in 2023.

In this interview Fiona Murchie talks to Christina Decu the Director of Enrollment Management at The International School of Kuala Lumpur. As the person responsible for admissions at ISKL she has plenty of insights to share with parents and those considering living and working in Malaysia with a family.

Christina considers herself to be a global citizen as she has lived and worked happily in many countries including Sweden, Germany, USA, China and England.

Christina explains that she has worked in different industry sectors yet found her passion over 15 years ago in International Education.

She feels grateful to be able to meet families from all over the world and to support their transition into the community of ISKL, a community she joined herself in 2023.

Parents, teachers, employers and relocation professionals and those managing international assignments will come away with a better understanding of not only what ISKL has to offer students and families but what to look for when choosing a school in Malaysia or indeed any part of the world.

This conversational style interview begins with a brief overview of the school, size (1781 students will start the 2024/25 academic year), age range from 3 to 18/19 years, the curriculums taught to diverse students representing 77 nationalities. A dynamic school with 60 years of educating students and proud to be the oldest IB school in Malaysia.

Questions explore Christina’s personal experience of moving to Malaysia in 2023 providing valuable information for families new to Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia. She describes the ethos of the school and the pathways for each child not only while they are at school and in education but the skills, competencies and passions that will help shape their life.

Christina explains the curriculums taught throughout the different age ranges including IB curriculum at ISKL for different age groups.
