Republicans nominate Stout for vacant Washington County, Tenn. Commission seat [Video]

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Washington County Republicans nominated a candidate for the vacant county commission District 9 seat.

In a meeting Tuesday evening at Memorial Park Community Center, members of the county GOP selected David Stout for the nomination.

Washington County, Tenn. Democratic Party hosts Saturday caucus

Stout told News Channel 11 that he wants to ensure the area has a bright future.

“Just focus again on keeping Johnson City growing and the county,” Stout said. “In my past life, I served as chairman of the Economic Development Board. So I think it’s important to recruit new industry, but it’s also very important to focus on our existing industry.”

Stout will face Raven Olsen, the Democratic nominee, in the Nov. 5 election.

Former District 9 Commissioner Suzy Williams passed away in June, leaving the seat vacant.

Due to the timing of Williams’ passing, a primary couldn’t be held. Instead, each party held a caucus to select its nominees.
