STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — National home improvement chain LL Flooring – formerly Lumber Liquidators – filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sunday and will close almost 100 locations.
“LL Flooring is generally operating in the normal course through this process and remains focused on providing customers with a broad range of hard and soft surface flooring and an exceptional shopping experience,” the chain said in a statement. It will continue to operate some 300 stores across the country.
The chain, which was founded in 1993, attributed the closures to inflation and rising cost of labor, plus a cool down in customer spending. It is in negotiations with “several bidders” regarding its future, if added.
Liquidation sales have started at 94 locations, including the LL Flooring store at 2040 Forest Ave., which is located in the shopping center anchored by Western Beef.
Closures are also planned for:
Alabama
Tuscaloosa, AL
Arizona
Mesa, AZ
Phoenix, AZ
Prescott Valley, AZ
California
Bakersfield, CA
Burlingame, CA
