KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – As thousands of students in the Kansas City metro prepare for back-to-school, one city councilman’s team helped them prepare over the weekend.

Children and families gathered at the Tony Aguirre Community Center at 1050 W. Pennway St., in Kanas City, Mo., on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 10, as they grabbed a backpack and supplies for back to school. They were also given the chance to enter a raffle and enjoy face painting, snacks and music.

Organizers indicated that this is the first back-to-school rally by the 4th Kansas City Council District. Councilman Crispin Rea discussed just how important events like this are.

“It’s important that our kids go back to school with their supplies, with new supplies,” Councilman Rea noted. “It’ll impact their academic and learning outcomes and so that’s certainly a goal, that students are actually prepared to learn the things they’re going to learn.”

Supplies was available for students between kindergarten and 12th grade.
