Golden Rule Bar-B-Q celebrates 133 years with 95 cent pork chop sandwiches [Video]

IRONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) – Golden Rule Bar-B-Q is celebrating 133 years of being in operation in Irondale on Saturday.

Earlier in 2024, AAA Magazine shared University of Tennessee at Chattanooga research that found the barbeque joint is possibly the oldest in the U.S. It opened in 1891 and claims to be Alabama’s oldest continuously operating restaurant.

Daniel Harp is the restaurant’s marketing director. He joined the CBS 42 Morning News on Saturday to talk about it.

“The White House first got electricity the same year that Golden Rule got established, which is just wild when you think about it,” Harp said. “You’re in the oldest restaurant in the U.S., barbeque wise, and the oldest barbeque restaurant in Alabama. That’s just experience in and of itself.”
